Completely Preliminary Future Art Poll

If LotFP puts out a Referee Screen, who would you want to do the artwork?

(I'm thinking of it being a bit epic like the Trampier D&D screen)

  3. Well, if you're going for that million-things-happening-mural look, Russ is the obvious choice, I think.

Otherwise, I'd love to see something by Dan McPharlin (assuming he does non-sci-fi) or, considering what else you're up to, maybe Henri Motte? (Er, well, ok, someone who can evoke that sort of style, anyway.)

  4. I'd go for Russ Nicholson, except that he's a lot better at line art than colour. Cynthia Sheppard is technically great, but for me it just doesn't stand out from the pack of FRPG artists active in the "mainstream" -- it's good to look at, but not imaginatively inspirational.

For full colour stuff, I'd go for Erol Otus AND Pete Mullen. I just love that stuff. The "Jester" cover from Dragon #55 and the back-cover illustration for OSRIC are inspired (unlike the OSRIC front cover, which is embarrassingly amateurish, but that's another matter).

Why these guys and not a more "realistic" artist? Because they have a more, for want of a better word, 'graphic' style that I think will take more looking at over time. They're less boring.

  5. Failing Derek Riggs; I second Aeron Alfrey - black and white would be rad!

  7. You know what? A screen by any of the above would be pretty amazing.

I originally said Cynthia Sheppard because I like her art and it would tie in best with the box cover...but I've been dreaming of a Mullen screen ever since I saw the S&W core cover.

And John Blanche or Erol Otus would just be amazing.

  8. And you know what would be really cool? If instead of the normal load of tables on the inside you had Vornheim-like tables and aids!

  9. For something epic and full colour in an ideal world?
    Definitely seconding Paul Bonner.

  10. Yeah, that's a good point. Whoever does the outside, get that Zak Smith guy to do the inside.

  11. Zak's work would be awesome both on the outside and inside!

  12. I'm emailing him about this right now (about the project, not about him doing it).

I think if he were to be the artist for this project, we'd quickly get to the point where somebody would be buying a plane ticket to go strangle someone else. :D
