Inspirational Music - Non Metal Edition

A lot of you seem to be inspired by artwork. Not me. Music. But you knew that already, didn't you?

  1. That John McLaughlin piece - while technically inspiring reminds me savagely of the Love Boat!!!

You should check out King Crimson - their songs are inspiring for my RPG games. Listen to "Starless Part 1", "Epitaph", and then "Red" while lying on your back in the pitch dark. They blend a dark ages feel with urban New York in my mind.

  2. Yeah, that's one schlocky McLaughlin piece. It this the best you could do, Jim? Wither Shakti? Wither Mahavishnu Orchestra?

  3. Surely you're using "you" in a general sense, and not implying that I specifically am not already quite familiar with King Crimson. ;)

  4. What, I'm not allowed to feel comforted by the presence of Johnny Carson?

  6. I've got a large collection of stock images that I use for inspiration- it's actually set up for online viewing, my blog has the links. But there's another source of inspiration I use, one that beats everything else hands down: Fanmade music videos.

A well-made FMV gives you a concentrated stream of ideas, finding the most potent ways to combine a truckload of imaginative imagery with a given song. Some examples:

  7. McLaughlin's hand looks like a spider on Red Bull and Crack when he's playing. That ain't easy to do especially on nylon strings (my personal nemesis)
